Silent Brick Controller X
PCIe-based, high-performance controller for backup & recovery and VTL archives. 0 to 8 slots for NVMe-based Silent Brick Pro. Up to 768 TB (gross) of internal NVMe storage in a 2U form factor, externally expandable to over 7 PB of total capacity.
The Silent Brick Controller X is available in configurations with no slots, or with 2, 4, 6 or 8 slots for internal storage. All versions can be expanded with external storage via SAS.
APPLICATIONS
3-2-1-1-0 Backup & Recovery with · Local S3-compatible object store · VTL archive · Data transport
Air Gap
An air gap is the complete physical interruption of all network connections between a backup system and the rest of the IT infrastructure, so that the system has no addressable network interface in its offline state and is therefore unreachable by ransomware and attackers.

Silent Brick System • X-Series
Silent Brick Pro
Compact, NVMe-based storage device, roughly the size of a paperback book. Up to 96 TB gross capacity in a sturdy aluminium casing. 12× M.2 NVMe with a mix of batches. Passively cooled, without its own power supply.
The Silent Brick Pro is a compact, portable data container with 12, 24, 48 or 96 TB (gross) for the Silent Brick Controller X.
APPLICATIONS
Primary Backup Target · Backup & Recovery with · Instant Recovery · S3 Bucket · Data transport · VTL Archive

Silent Brick Max Air
Stationary storage module for the Silent Brick Controller with a true air gap. 1U, 12 hard drives from 3 production batches, connected via SAS. Can be connected as a NAS via SMB/NFS, as S3 object storage or as a VTL.
The Silent Brick Max Air is a rack-mountable storage container for the Silent Brick system offering 48, 96, 144 or 240 TB (gross) in 1U with a galvanic air gap.
Applications
Secondary Backup Target · Backup & Recovery with · S3 Bucket · File Server / NAS · VTL archive

The air-gap solution for your existing Silent Brick system
The new Controller X replaces the previous Controller G5200. However, a complete switch is not always economically viable – even though it offers undeniable advantages. As the Air-Gap-compatible Silent Brick Air (for the Controller G5200) is now only available in limited quantities, the question arises:
How can I still use on the G5200 controller?
The answer: the Silent Brick Max Air. It offers up to 240 TB (gross) of capacity per medium. Instead of having to handle numerous physical media manually, the air-gap functionality of the Silent Brick Max Air can be semi- or fully automated:
- On the Silent Brick Max Air, "Eject" refers to the galvanic (electrical) disconnection of the hard drives from the system.
- As was previously the case with the Silent Brick Air, the Eject function can be automated, for example, upon completion of a backup job.
- Reactivation can be performed manually by pressing the button on the device.
- From the next software version (autumn 2026), time-controlled reactivation will also be supported. The integrated, tamper-proof real-time clock automatically lifts the disconnection after the pre-set period. This allows rotation scenarios to be implemented fully automatically without having to forego a true air gap.
The Silent Brick Max Air is fully compatible with your G5200 controller and offers improved, enhanced Air-Gap functionality.
We would be happy to discuss your specific situation in detail and work with you to find a suitable solution for continuing to use your Silent Brick system – either with your existing G5200 controller and Silent Brick Max Air, or by switching to the new X controller.

Questions and answers
No. Firstly, depending on your CARE contract, we guarantee up to 10 years of service and spare parts for your existing system. Secondly, we still have a limited number of Silent Brick Air units in stock for upgrading your system (G-Series).
The Silent Brick Max Air replaces the Silent Brick Max without any restrictions and also offers a true air gap.
As the availability of the Silent Brick Air is limited, we recommend switching your air gap strategy to the new Silent Brick Max Air, which offers up to 240 TB (gross) per unit and provides a fully automatable air gap.
Both versions, Silent Brick Pro and Silent Brick Max Air, offer a true air gap.
The Silent Brick Pro can be physically removed and thus safely stored in a safe or a bank safe-deposit box, for example.
The Silent Brick Max Air remains stationary in the rack, providing galvanic (electrical) isolation for the storage media, but also offers two air gap modes:
- In manual mode, the isolation can only be lifted using the button on the device itself
- In timed mode, the isolation can also be lifted automatically after a pre-set time has elapsed, enabling automated rotation scenarios
The mode is permanently set on the Silent Brick Max Air and cannot be changed via software.
No. Existing Silent Brick Max units can still be used with the Controller X – without the need for data migration.
As the Controller X does not have slots for Silent Brick Air, this data must be transferred to Silent Brick Pro or Silent Brick Max (Air).
