12/8 Erasure Coding.
In VTL mode, the data on Silent Bricks is quadruply protected against loss via 12/8 erasure coding. Up to four disks can fail at the same time without data being lost. The disks are also regularly checked for integrity via digital audit.
Unlike tapes, access to the data on Silent Bricks is of course random. There is no need for tiresome "spooling", which always involves the risk of physical damage with tape storage. In our experience, the service life is several decades.
